Company Description Shotton Mill Limited is building one of Europe’s largest and most technologically advanced paper mills at its site in Deeside, North Wales. The facility is designed to produce high volumes of containerboard and tissue paper, with significant capacity for future growth. The site is a model of sustainability, using 100% recycled materials in containerboard production and utilizing recycled waste wood and biomass for green energy generation. A hydrogen-enabled combined heat and power (CHP) plant and biogas from anaerobic digestion-based effluent treatment will provide low-carbon energy to power the mill. This approach supports a circular economy and offers team members the opportunity to work with cutting-edge, environmentally focused technologies.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based at Shotton Mill in Deeside, North Wales, for E&I day and shift Technicians and Mechanical day Technicians. E&I Technicians will carry out electrical and instrumentation maintenance, including motor and process control systems, calibration, fault-finding, and preventive maintenance on plant equipment to support reliable and safe operations. Mechanical Technicians will perform routine and corrective mechanical maintenance on mill machinery, rotating equipment, and supporting systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime. All Technicians will identify and resolve equipment issues, participate in planned shutdowns and installations, and work collaboratively with operations and engineering teams to support continuous improvement. The role involves working safely to site standards, accurately documenting maintenance activities, and contributing to the reliability and efficiency of a highly automated, sustainable paper mill.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in motor control and process control for industrial equipment and automated systems.
- Experience with instrumentation and calibration to maintain accurate and reliable measurements across plant processes.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities for both electrical and mechanical faults in complex production environments.
- Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent) in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience in heavy industry, manufacturing, or process plants (paper, chemicals, energy, or similar) is highly beneficial.
- Understanding of safe systems of work, including permit-to-work, lockout/tagout, and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals, and to use CMMS or digital maintenance systems.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work shifts or days as required in a fast-paced production environment.
