Role Purpose
The Assistant Management Accountant (Compliance) supports the delivery of accurate financial information, ensures adherence to internal controls, and helps maintain compliance with statutory, audit, and corporate reporting requirements. The role involves assisting with month‑end processes, financial analysis, regulatory reporting, and ensuring best‑practice financial governance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End
- Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Support the completion of month‑end close activities to strict deadlines.
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and investigate variances.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, accounting standards, and internal control frameworks.
- Maintain documentation for audit trails and support annual external and internal audits.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with company financial procedures and regulatory requirements (e.g., VAT, PAYE, CIS depending on industry).
Financial Controls & Process Improvement
- Support the development and review of internal financial controls.
- Identify areas of non‑compliance and propose corrective actions.
- Help implement process improvements to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and financial governance.
Reporting & Analysis
- Produce routine compliance and financial performance reports for management.
- Analyse cost trends, variances, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Support ad‑hoc reporting to stakeholders and senior finance staff.
Documentation & Record-Keeping
- Maintain well‑organised financial records for compliance and audit readiness.
- Ensure all supporting documentation meets corporate and regulatory standards.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Understanding of financial accounting principles and management accounting processes.
- Strong reconciliation and numerical analysis skills.
- Proficient in Excel and financial systems.

Qualifications & Experience
- Part‑qualified or studying towards AAT / CIMA / ACCA (or equivalent) preferred.
- Experience working in a finance or accounting environment desirable.
- Knowledge of compliance, audit preparation, or internal controls is beneficial but not essential.
